SJU WOMEN FINISH 13TH AT NCAA REGIONALS
DAVIS, WV (11/16/02) -- Freshman Ann Regan had an impressive showing at her first NCAA Regional Championships, placing 31st in a field of 181 runners, to lead the Saint Joseph's women's cross country team to a 13th place showing at the District II meet hosted by West Virginia.
The rookie finished the Canaan Valley Golf Course 6K jaunt in 22:19.3. It marked the second straight year that a Hawk had occupied the 31st place slot, as Denise Fergus led SJU in 2001.
Sophomore Colleen Flanagan was the next Hawk to cross the finish line with a time of 23:25.0, to place 74th overall. Junior Karen Weber ran her best race of the season, placing third for SJU with a time of 23:28.7 (76th overall).
Junior Amy Manwaring (90th, 23:50.1) and freshman Anne Marshall (125th, 25:20.4) placed fourth and fifth for the Crimson and Gray. Rounding out the top seven for St. Joe's was sophomore Jackie Twomey, who cracked the top seven for the first time all season, with a time of 26:00.9, placing 163rd.
Senior captain Megan Wynne also was in the top seven for the first time this fall with a time of 26:54.0 for 172nd place.
West Virginia's Megan Metcalfe won the individual race with a time of 20:32.0. Georgetown won the team championship, and along with second place Villanova, will advance to next Monday's NCAA Championships. La Salle was the top Atlantic 10 finisher, placing seventh.
