SJU WOMEN COMPETE AT PRESTIGIOUS ND INVITATIONAL

SOUTH BEND, IND. (10/04/02) - Saint Joseph's traveled to South Bend to compete with the nation's best cross country teams and came home with a 22nd place finish of 24 teams at the Notre Dame Invitation on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Colleen Flanagan was the lead runner for SJU, finishing 47th in a field of 204 with a time of 18:33. Freshman Ann Regan placed 101 with a time of 19:06 and senior Sarah Conway ran a 19:33 for 133rd overall. Rounding out the top five for SJU were juniors Amy Manwaring (19:43, 154th) and Karen Weber (19:49, 160th). Sophomore Kelly Victory (20:39, 188) and Meghan Gallagher (21:21, 197th) completed SJU's top seven. The runners had to cope with less than ideal race conditions as a pre-race downpour gave way to clear, sunny skies leaving a muddy course to compete on. #2 Stanford won the invitation with 21 points, followed by #18 Wisconsin in second. Stanford's Sarah Bei won the race with a time of 16:48. The rest of the Hawk lineup competes on Saturday locally at the La Salle Invitation on Belmont Plateau.
