HAWKS SWEEP DUQUESNE DUALS
PITTSBURGH, PA (09/07/02) - Sophomore Colleen Flanagan placed fifth overall to lead the Saint Joseph's University women's cross country team to a sweep of the seven-team field at the Duquesne Cross Country Duals on Saturday morning.
Flanagan ran the course in a time of 18:48 and was followed in order by teammates Ann Regan (18:52), Amy Manwaring (19:07) and Karen Weber (19:26), who placed sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Senior Sarah Conway rounded out the Hawk scorers, finishing 12th overall in a time of 19:38. It was Conway's push at the end, passing two Pittsburgh runners, that enabled SJU to top Pittsburgh, 26-29, in the team's closest race.
Junior Mary Crossin placed 16th overall in a time of 19:51 while freshman Thuy Nguyen rounded out the team's top seven finishers, running 24th in a time of 21:13.
Besides the Hawks narrow win over Pittsburgh, SJU also topped host Duquesne (21-36), Wheeling Jesuit (15-49), St. Bonaventure (15-50), Carnegie Mellon (21-39) and Penn State-Altoona (15-50). Carnegie Mellon's Katie Armi was the overall winner posting a time of 18:22.
The Hawks next compete at the William and Mary Invitational on September 21.
