SJU PLACES 13TH AT DISTRICTS

BETHLEHEM, PA (11/10/01) - Senior Denise Fergus placed 28th overall to lead the Saint Joseph's womens cross country team to a 13th place finish at the NCAA District 2 Championships held on the campus of Lehigh University on Saturday morning. Colleen Flanagan finished a distant second to Fergus for SJU, placing 67th overall in a time of 22:41.51. She was followed closely by Karen Weber (75th/22:51.86) and Amy Manwaring (76th/22:54.97). Rounding out the Hawk scorers was Sarah Bright (101st/23:32.69). One hundred and eighty runners finished the race. Georgetown won the overall championship with the Hoyas Marni Kruppa (20:34.31) and Jill Laurendeau (20:34.31) placing in a virtual tie for the individual title which was awarded to Kruppa. Villanova placed second (69) followed by Bucknell (129), A-10 Champions La Salle (135), Penn State (136), Princeton (157), West Virginia (230), Navy (245), Pittsburgh (245) and Penn (253). A total of 26 teams took part in the meet. SJU ends its season next Saturday (11/17) at the ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
