LIMBACH EARNS ROOKIE HONORS AS SJU PLACES FIFTH AT A-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS
PHILADELPHIA (10/27/01) - Senior Katie
Limbach, a cross country newcomer, earned
Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie honors, to
help lead the Saint Joseph's women's cross
country team to a fifth place finish at the
conference championship on Saturday morning
at Belmont Plateau. Ranked eighth in the A-10
Coaches Poll prior to the meet, SJU ran a strong
race, led by senior Denise Fergus, who placed
18th overall.
Fergus, the team's top runner throughout most of the season, was
followed by Limbach who placed 22nd overall (19:10.7), sophomore
Karen Weber (26th, 19:18.1), freshman Colleen Flanagan (27th, 19:18.7)
and sophomore Amy Manwaring (32nd, 19:31.0).
Freshman Kelly Victory finished sixth for SJU, 54 overall (20:03.8) while
sophomore Sarah Brighht placed 58th overall (20:08.4) to round out the
team's top seven.
La Salle captured the team title, placing four runners among the top 10
overall, while Xavier's Kerry Hills won the individual title (17:65.7). The
Explorers finished with 55 points and were followed by Rhode Island
(65),Richmond (72), UMass (122), Saint Joseph's (125), Dayton (129),
Xavier (130), Duquesne (182), Fordham (260), George Washngton (290)
and St, Bonaventure (365).
The Hawks next compete at the District II Championships held on the
campus of Lehigh University on November 10.
