HAWKS TIE FOR 6TH AT NATIONAL INVITATIONAL

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (10/13/01) - Freshman Colleen Flanagan led the Saint Joseph's women's cross country team to a sixth place tie with Mount St. Mary's with a 37th place finish at the National Invitational hosted by Penn State. Flanagan finished the 6000 meter course in a time of 23:23. "We raced much better than last week," stated SJU head coach Kevin Quinn on his team's performance. "We are still getting ourselves healthy, hopefully we will be ready for the Atlantic 10 Championship in two weeks." Sophomore Karen Weber placed second for the Hawks and 40th overall just five seconds behind Flanagan (23:28). Senior Denise Fergus, the team's normal top runner, ran third for SJU, 47th overall, in a time of 23:38. Fergus, who missed last week due to illness, is still not 100 percent. Senior Katie Limbach and sophomore Sarah Bright rounded out the SJU top five, placing 55th and 58th overall with times of 24:00 and 24:12, respectively. James Madison won the overall title with 35 points. Penn State placed second with 56, followed by William & Mary (71), Florida (89), Lehigh (141), SJU (178) and William & Mary (178). The Hawks will look to defend their A-10 Championship in two weeks at Philadelphia's Belmont Plateau (October 27, 10:45 AM).
