HAWKS PLACE 7th AT WILLIAM AND MARY

WILLIAMSBURG, VA (9/23/01) ­The Saint Joseph's women's cross country team finished in sixth place at the William and Mary Invitational this past weekend after missing the Spiked Shoe Invitational due to cancellation (terrorist attack on USA). Senior Denise Fergus, led the way for the Hawks, placing 40th in a time of 19:20. "We definitely have a talented team, but we are very, very young and this past weekend's race does not exemplify our talent." said head coach Kevin Quinn. Freshman Colleen Flanagan,(43rd,19:23) finished in second place for the Hawks while sophomores Karen Weber, (44th, 19:25), Sarah Bright (56th, 19:46) and senior Katie Limbach, (61st, 19:52) rounded out the team's top five. Virginia won the event, finishing with 30 points. The Cavaliers were followed by James Madison (65), Richmond (99), William and Mary (110), Lehigh (127), Ohio (134), Saint Joseph's (188), Virginia Commonwealth (234), Norfolk St. (289), Hampton (304), UNC-Wilmington (324), Old Dominion (327), VCU 'b' (423). The Hawks will next run at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday, October 6.
