Fall 2000 Outlook
HAWKS LOOK FOR BIG THINGS IN 2000
Defending Atlantic-10 Champion Kane and
All-District Honoree Fergus Return to Lead SJU
Senior captain Christine Kane and junior Denise
Fergus are expected to be at the front of the pack
during the 2000 cross country season. "We have
two very strong frontrunners in Kane and Fergus,"
states head coach Kevin Quinn. The duo led SJU
to a fourth place finish at the 1999 Atlantic 10
Championships and a ninth place finish at the
NCAA District 2 meet. Kane, a two-time NCAA
qualifier, enters her final season at Hawk Hill as the
defending Atlantic 10 Champion. The senior also
garnered All-District honors after a fifth place finish
at the NCAA District 2 meet and All-East honors
after a third place finish at the ECAC
Championships.
Fergus is coming off an impressive 1999 campaign.
The junior was named All-District after a 17th place
finish at the NCAA District 2 meet. She also placed
17th at the Atlantic 10 Championships and finished
26th at the ECAC Championships. "Fergus
showed a real spark last year in the NCAA District
2 meet, running probably her best collegiate race
yet," adds Quinn.
Quinn will also look to senior Gabby Quezada to be a very important
member of the team. Quezada had her best season in 1999, placing 29th at
the ECAC Championships and 30th at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Senior Meghan Clancy and sophomores Amy Bashore, Sarah Conway,
Kelly Fleming and Megan Wynne will look to make significant contributions
to this year's squad. All five will be competing for the team's four and five
spots. Bashore and Conway ran in all seven races last season while Wynne
competed in five.
Four freshman, Emily Choromanski, Jessica Keating, Amy Manwaring,
and Karen Weber, complete the cross country roster.
