SMYTHE AND FLANAGAN LEAD SJU WOMEN AT DELAWARE

NEWARK, DE (2/08/04) - Sophomore Andria Smythe won three events, including the long jump, 60m and 200m dashes and junior Colleen Flanagan captured both the 1000m and One-Mile runs to lead the Saint Joseph's University women's track and field team at the Delaware Invitational over the weekend. Smythe leaped 18' 1/2" to capture the long jump and then sped to victory in the 60m in a time of 7.66 and the 200m in 25.69. Flanagan, meanwhile bested the field in the 1000m in a time of 3:10.20 and won the One-Mile run by circling the oval in 5:18.74 SJU displayed strength in the middle distance as senior Amy Manwaring (3:14.81 and 5:19.25) followed Flanagan across the finish line in both the 1000m and mile to place second in both events. Freshman Rebecca Powell (5:19.75) finished third in the mile. SJU also went 1-2-3 and 5 in the 800m as sophomore Thuy Nguyen (2:19.44), junior Mary Crossin (2:22.47), freshmen Erin Kelly (2:23.14) and Amanda Guthridge (2:24.15) all ran well. Several other Hawks delivered strong efforts. Senior Sarah Click leaped 5' 3" to garner silver in the high jump, freshman Julie Lentz (60.69) was second in the 400m and rookie Suzie McHenry (10:46.18) took runner-up honors in the 3000m. The 4x800 relay placed second in a time of 10:10.14, the 4x400 was third (4:03.67).
