NGUYEN NAMED MOST OUTSTANDING ROOKIE AS HAWKS PLACE FOURTH AT A-10S
KINGSTON, RI (02/22/03) - Freshman Thuy Nguyen was named Most Outstanding Rookie after winning the 500m (1:16.82) and Saint Joseph's had six all-conference performers to cap a fourth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Rhode Island. Richmond captured the team title by edging the host Rams in the closest A-10 Championship ever.
Senior Sarah Conway earned first team all-conference honors after winning the 800m with a time of 2:14.49. Sophomore Kelly Victory garnered a second team nod with a second place in the same event (2:15.20). Freshman Ann Regan also took home all-league with a silver in the 3000 meters (10:13.16).
Rounding out the Hawk All-A-10 performers were the 4x800 relay team that finished second with a time of 9:14.08 and freshman Andria Smythe in the 55m and long jump. Conway, sophomore Mary Crossin, Nguyen and Victory comprised the relay unit.
Smythe had a busy day in her first Atlantic 10 Championships. She placed second in the 55m with a school record time of 7.03, breaking her 7.16 mark set earlier this season. Her second place in the long jump (18'8 1/2") and a sixth in the 200m capped her day.
