HAWKS COMPETE AT CORNELL'S SIX-WAY INVITATIONAL
ITHACA, NY- The St. Joseph's women's track
team traveled to New York for the second
consecutive week to take part in the Cornell
Six-Way Invitational.
Behind the performance of senior Christine
Kane, the Hawks placed fourth among six
schools, including Buffalo, Penn, Colgate,
Ithaca, and the host Big Red.
Kane claimed two victories on the day, winning
both the 800 meter run (2:18.0) and the mile run (5:02.36). The senior
also teamed up with Mary Korfmacher, Brooke Gilliford and Katie
Limbach in the 4x400 meter relay, placing third with a time of 4:01.03.
Korfmacher claimed her first victory of the season, winning the 400
meter dash in a time of 60.49 seconds. Senior captain Bernadette
Speer posted first place in the high jump with a leap of 5'6 1/2" while
sophomore Maisha Tyler claimed fourth place in her first collegiate long
jump, a leap of 17'11 1/2".
Other highlights include a fifth place finish by Gilliford in the 200 meter
dash (26.74), a sixth place finish by Limbach in the 500 meter dash
(1:21.34), a sixth place finish by Denise Fergus in the mile (5:20.04),
and another sixth place finish by Karen Weber in the 3000 meter run
(10:48.9).
The Hawks next compete on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27, when
they travel to Penn State.
