HAWKS PLACE FIRST AT FORDHAM INVITATIONAL

New York, NY- The St. Joseph's women's track team competed at the Fordham/St. John's Invitational on Friday, February 9. The Hawks placed first among 14 teams which included squads from Albany, La Salle, Lafayette, Rider, St. John's, and Fordham. Junior Brooke Gilliford had a record day, setting two new school records while placing first in both the 55 and 200 meter dashes. Gilliford broke her own record in the 55m by 1/100th of a second placing first with a time of 7.29 seconds. The Lancaster, PA native also set a new record in the 200 (25.73), breaking the seven-year old record of 26.51, set by Bonnie Rymanski in 1994. Senior Christine Kane placed first in the mile (4:54.66) and second in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:55.65, the fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this season. Sophomore Maisha Tyler has continued to impress in her rookie campaign, claiming first in the long jump with her personal best of 18'2 1/4", second longest in the A-10. The Chester, PA native also placed fifth in the 55 meter dash (7.46) and sixth in the 200 with a time of 26.46. Both times are among the A-10's fastest. Other individual highlights include a first place finish by Bernadette Speer in the high jump (5'4 1/4"), a second place finish by Denise Fergus in the mile (5:10.14), a second place showing by Sarah Click in the high jump (5'2 1/2"), and third place finishes by Emily Choromanski in the 3000 meter run (10:49.52) and by Amy Manwaring in the 5000 (18:34.49). The Distance Medley Relay team of Sarah Bright, Katie Limbach, Melissa Wilbeck and Fergus placed first with a time 12:21.75 The Hawks next compete on Saturday, February 17, when they travel to Rhode Island to take part in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track Championships
