HAWKS COMPETE AT BUCKNELL
LEWISBURG, PA - After a four week hiatus,
the St. Joseph's University women's track team
competed this past weekend against Lafayette,
Maryland-Eastern Shore, and the host Bison.
Without the services of co-captains Bernadette
Speer and Gina Bundy, as well as A-10
Performer of the Year Christine Kane, the
Hawks placed fourth behind the performances of
sophomore Sarah Conway and junior Brooke
Gilliford, as well as behind strong
performances from several freshmen.
Conway and Gilliford posted second place finishes, tops for SJU on the
day, with Conway running an Atlantic 10 best 2:17.56 in the 800 meter
run while Gilliford ran a 7.39 in the 55 meter dash. Freshman Sarah
Click finished tied for second in the high jump with her personal best
jump of 5'2 1/2".
Several freshmen had strong performances, led by Karen Weber's third
place finish in the 3000 meter run (10:55.52). Amy Manwaring placed
fourth in the mile run while also teaming up with Conway, freshman
Emily Choromanski, and senior Melissa Wilbeck for a third place
showing in the 4x800 relay (10:08.89). Freshman Sarah Bright brought
home a fourth place finish in the 1000 while junior Denise Fergus
placed fourth in the 5000 meter run.
Freshman Erin Blaustein fared well in the jumps, placing fourth in the
triple jump (31'10") and seventh in the long jump (15'4 1/2").
The Hawks travel to New York, NY this weekend to compete in the
Armory Invitation .
