HAWKS OPEN UP 2000-01 TRACK SEASON AT LAFAYETTE

EASTON, PA - After an exciting cross country season which saw SJU sweep the Atlantic 10 Conference team championships, the Hawk runners went inside to open their 2000-01 season. In a low-key tune-up at the Lafayette Invitational, the SJU women posted some fine performances. Co-captains Bernadette Speer and Gina Bundy led the way. The two SJU high jumpers placed one-two in the season's opening meet with both posting ECAC-qualifying jumps. Speer set a school-record with a leap of 5'8" while Bundy, who also placed fourth in the shot put (35'9 1/4"), eclipsed her previous personal best, clearing 5'6". Junior Brooke Gilliford placed third at both 60 yards (7.1) and 220 yards (26.8) while teaming with Mary Korfmacher, Katie Limbach, and Speer to place third in the mile relay with a time of 4:12.2. Limbach also placed third at 880 yards (2:28), just two seconds behind teammate Melissa Wilbeck, who finished second.
