McHenry, Ramirez and Smythe Take Gold at Haverford Invitational
Jan. 25, 2005 HAVERFORD, PA - The Saint Joseph's University women's track team competed at the Haverford Invitational this weekend. The Hawks had a strong showing in all the events they competed in; including first place finishes from sophomores Suzie McHenry and Valerie Ramirez and junior Andria Smythe. McHenry performed impressively in both the 3000m and the mile. She placed 4th in the mile with a time of 5:15.26, then returned to take gold in the 3000m in 10:39.40. After missing all of last year due to injury, Ramirez is back in top form for the Hawks. She finished first in the 200m in a time of 27.27. Smythe also had a strong showing this weekend as the top finisher in the 55m dash meeting ECAC qualifying standards with a time of 7.14. The Hawks received other strong performances. Seniors Mary Crossin and Colleen Flanagan finished fifth and eighth in the mile, with times of 5:20.13 and 5:29.82. Freshman Lauren Wallace was second in the 400m (61.04), followed closely by senior Kelly Victory who placed third in 61.08. Sophomore Erin Kelly finished fourth in the 800m in 2:24.84. In the relays the Hawks ran two 4x400m teams, both turning in strong performances. The team of Wallace, Ramirez, Victory and sophomore Julie Lentz finished second, while the team of Kelly, Crossin, Smythe and Rebecca Powell finished third. The Hawks return to the track on February 4th to compete at the Armory Invitational in New York.
