RICHMOND, VA - An All-Conference performance by junior Andria Smythe in the long jump highlighted the weekend for the Saint Joseph's women's track team at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Championships held at Sports Backer Stadium. SJU compiled 33 points to place ninth at the event.

Smythe who has battled injury all season, positioned herself for potential wins in both the long jump and 100m. In the long jump, she moved into first place with a leap of 18-5.75 with one leap remaining. She passed on her final jump to prepare for the 100m preliminaries. She was passed in the final round to place second overall to pick up All-A-10 Second team honors.

Passing on the long jump final appeared prudent for Smythe who easily qualified for the 100m final after tearing off a time of 12.25. She felt a tweak in a lingering injury, however and was forced to withdraw from the final.

In addition to Smythe, SJU received quality finishes from several individuals. The Hawks scored nine points in the 800m, where sophomore Rebecca Powell and junior Thuy Nguyen placed fourth (2:17.44) and fifth (2:17.70), respectively.

Sophomore Suzie McHenry in the 5000m (17:52.11) and senior Erin O'Donnell in the Steeplechase (11:35.07) were both fifth. Placing sixth were sophomore Valerie Ramirez in the 100m Hurdles (15.87) and Lynn Puzzo in the javelin (116-02).

In the relays, the Hawks placed seventh in the 4x800m, but the promising 4x100m suffered a disqualification.

Rhode Island won the team title (150), followed by Duquesne (135), La Salle (116), Richmond (103), Temple (85.5), Fordham (82), Massachusetts (76.5), Dayton (73), Saint Joseph's (33), and Xavier (3).
