Records Fall as Hawk Track Runs at Larry Ellis Invitational
April 23, 2007
PRINCETON, NJ - The Saint Joseph's women's track team had a banner weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, NJ, as 13 personal records and one school record fell at the meet. Senior Valerie Ramirez highlighted the Hawk performance, shattering her own 100m hurdles record and setting two other personal bests in the 100m and 200m dashes. Ramirez turned in a time of 14.67 (second place) in the 100m hurdles to beat her previous record of 15.04 by nearly four-tenths of a second. On top of that, Ramirez took second in the 100m as well, setting a personal best with a 12.53. Her 25.95 in the 200m, her third personal record for the meet, earned her sixth-place honors. Ramirez also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x100 relay squad that took first place with a time of 47.55. That is the fastest 4x100 time the Hawks have turned in this season, and is .19 seconds shy of the school record. Two other seniors set personal bests in their events as well. Erin Kelly ran a 2:15.74 in the elite 800m race on Friday night. Meanwhile, Maddie Bell turned in a time of 18:35.12 in the 5,000m. Joining Bell in the 5,000m were junior Adriene Beltz with a 19:00.97 and sophomore Amy Rhein with a time of 18:07.92, both personal bests. Also running personal bests for SJU were sophomores Andrea Florida (10:19.76 in the 3,000m) and Skylar Rea (1:09.16 in the 400m hurdles). Freshmen Caitlin McGrath (58.20 in the 400m) and Caitlin Reusche (2:20.88 in the 800m) also beat their previous personal best marks. Freshman standout Nicole McMullen placed fourth in the long jump, topping her previous best leap by over nine inches. Her mark of 18-10 ½ is the second-best jump in the conference this season. Also turning in a personal best in the long jump was freshman Erin Vanderhoof, who recorded a leap of 17-8 ¾.
