Injury-Riddled Hawk Women Place 9th at A-10 Indoor Meet
Feb. 19, 2005 KINGSTON, RI - With several of the team's top performers either out or performing at less than 100% due to injury, the Saint Joseph's women'strack team could manage just a ninth place finish at the A-10 indoor track and field championships held at Mackal Fieldhouse in Rhode Island. SJU's best finish was delivered by the 4x800 Relay of Mary Crossin, Kelly Victory, Rebecca Powell and Thuy Nguyen which placed second in a time of 9:21.63. Individually, defending champion Nguyen was edged in the 800m by less than 8/10 of a second for first place and finished third in a time of 2:15.94 The Hawks also got a fourth place finishes from Julie Lentz (59.26) in the 400, Suzie McHenry (17:27.50) in the 5,000m, and both the 4x400 Relay (3:59.32),which featured Amanda Guthridge, JordanTeuber, Stacey Cronin and Lentz, and the DMR (12:36.26) that included Marcy DeLorenzo, Valerie Ramirez, Erin Kelly and Jacki Twomey.
On the women side, Rhode Island won its second consecutive Atlantic 10 title. The Rams totaled 132.83 points in edging runner-up La Salle (127), which earned its highest-ever finish. Richmond finished in third place with 109 points, followed by Duquesne (90.66), Temple (74), Massachusetts (58.5), Fordham (57), Dayton (48), Saint Joseph's (42) and Xavier (2).
