Feb. 13, 2009
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Nicole McMullen pulled off a double-victory for the SJU women's track team at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational hosted by the Armory Track & Field Center in New York Friday night. McMullen's win in the 200m set the new school record, while she won the long jump earlier in the evening. McMullen sprinted to a 24.83, an ECAC-qualifying time, in the 200m dash. The mark was .16 better than Jordan Teuber's school record set a year ago. McMullen also won the long jump with a leap of 5.78m (18’11¾”). Other top performances were seen by Nohjay Nimpson (triple jump), Kristin Andrews (800m) and Kristen Pierce (60m Hurdles). Nimpson captured second with a distance of 11.54m (37’ 10½”). Andrews crossed the finish line in a time of 2:18.86, good for third. Pierce completed the hurdles in a time of 9.07 for fourth place. The Lafayette/Rider Invitational served as the final tuneup for the Hawks before the Atlantic 10 Championships on Friday. For the first time in meet history, the event will be a two-day competition at the Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.
