COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Saint Joseph’s women’s track team finished second at the 2009 Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College on Friday night. SJU was paced by victories in the 55-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles, triple jump and 4x200m relay.
Sophomore Nohjay Nimpson paced the short-handed Hawks who held out many of their top athletes in preparation for the PSU National Meet next week. Nimpson captured gold in the triple jump with a leap of 36-0¼.
Later, Nimpson went on to lead the 4x200m relay to victory. The relay won the race in a time of 1:48.04.
Freshman Ashley Williams won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.44 and fellow classmate Stefani Zabilowicz won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.56. Zabilowicz was followed by teammate Kristin Pierce (8.68) in second.
Allison Smith jumped 5-1¾ to tie for the best high jump of the day. She took second in the event due to the jumps tiebreaker.
SJU will return to action next week as the teams will compete at two meets—Penn State National and the Thomson Invitational at Delaware.
