A Note From Coach Kevin Quinn
Jan. 14, 2006
Andria Smythe continued her sprint excellence with a solid win over 60 meters, turning back two very good Penn State sprinters. The key to her win was not only an excellent start but added strength to finish the last 20 meters. Freshman Andrea Florida gained valuable experience as she ran through the pack to capture sixth in the 3,000 meter. Among relay highlights it should be noted that the Hawks finished in the top 5 of all relays that we entered. The most surprising relay teams competing were the 4x55 and the 4x55 shuttle hurdle teams which featured eight different runners and a third and fifth place finish. The Hawks also enjoyed a new school record in the 4x200, a first place finish in their 4x400 heat, with the added excitement of a dropped baton, and the middle distance relays that captured third (4x800) and fourth (DMR) respectively. The next outing for the Hawks if a meet at Ursinus on Friday, January 20th with a 3:00 pm start time. The Hawks return to Penn State on Friday and Saturday January 27th and 28th. Thanks to the alumni who cheered us on at the Armory last week. It was great to see everyone and all appeared to have a good time.
