Hawk Women Place Third at Fordham Invite

BRONX, NY - The Saint Joseph's University women's track team returned ot the oval from winter break with an impressive showing at the Fordham 10-Way Invitational held at the Armory. The Hawks placed third overall in the 10 team field with senior Kelly Victory and juniors Thuy Nguyen and Andria Smythe each claiming event wins.

Smythe posted a pair of victories capturing the long jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 18-8.5 inches. She then posted a win the the triple jump with a leap of 37-3.25. Nguyen, meanwhile, earned a victory in the 1000m with a time of 2:57.35. Victory posted a win in the 800, topping the field with a time of 2:19.69.

The Crimson and Gray received several other strong performances. senior Erin O'Donnell placed second in the 5000m with a time of 19:12.67. Senior Mary Crossin was third in the 800, follwing Victory in a time of 2:23.62.

In the relays, the 4x800 team of Erin Kelly, Crossin, Victory and Nguyen placed third in 9:49.73. THe 4x400 of Amanda Guthridges, Stacy Cronin, Lauren Wallace and Julie Lentz finished fourth in a time of 4:03.86.

Lentz also finished sixth in the 400m running 59.30, Guthridge was sixth in the 500m in 1:20.70 and Rebecca Powell was sixth in the 1000 in 3:09.29.

SJU is back in action again on Saturday at Penn State.
