Saint Joseph's Places Third, Winning Four Events at Fordham Invitational

New York, NY - Saint Joseph's had seven members place in the top-three Friday as the Hawks went on to finish third overall with 93 points. Rutgers won the meet with 126 points and St. John's placed second with 95. The day was marked by a number of stand-out performances. Senior Andria Smythe led the way placing first in the 60m dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.65, third in the triple jump (38-01.25), and fourth in the long jump (181-01.75) earning 21 points for the Hawks. Fellow senior runner Thuy Nguyen placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:18.02. Junior Suzanne McHenry took first place in the 3,000m (10:30.81) while junior Maddie Bell placed first (19:10.08) in the 5,000m with freshman Amy Rhein taking third (19:21.13). Other strong freshmen performances came from Lauren Fike, Andrea Florida, Kristen Gold, Katie Pencek, Juli Stesland, and Lauren Walsh. Erin Kelly, Renee Spangler, Rebecca Powell and Thuy Nguyen earned a first place finish for the Hawks in the 4x800 with a time of 9:35.48.
Saint Joseph's scored in every event they entered for the day and got individual scoring efforts from three seniors, four juniors, two sophomores and five freshmen. The Hawks return to competition on Saturday January 14th at the Penn State Relay's. |
