Women's Tennis Blanks Drexel, 7-0
Oct. 22, 2004 The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team (4-6) won for the third time in four matches by blanking crosstown rival Drexel, 7-0, on the Finnesey Courts. SJU dominated the Dragons, sweeping both the doubles and singles competition. The Hawks opened the afternoon by easily securing the doubles point. Senior Michelle Savage and sophomore Erika Guers defeated Kristy Pron and Jaimee Wylie at number one and freshman Gina Digiacomo and sophomore Maris Donelson bested Michelle Septak and Jenn Rimmey by identical 8-1 margins. DU forfeited the third doubles match. In singles, Hawk junior Nicole Morrison battled back from a set down to win a pair of gritty tiebreakers and come away with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 win at firts singles. Savage (6-1, 6-2), junior Jess Swanderski (6-1, 6-1) and Guers (6-0, 6-0) each won easily at second, third and fourth singles. DiGiacomo posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory at number five and Alisa Van Meter picked up a forfeit win at six. SJU travels to Bucknell on Tuesday.
