HAWKS DOWN EXPLORERS IN A-10 TUNE-UP

PHILADELPHIA (04/06/03) -- In a tune-up for next week's Atlantic 10 Championships, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team downed La Salle, 4-3. With the win, SJU moved over the .500 mark at 7-6. After losing the doubles point, junior Pilar Glodzik was a straight-set victor at second singles, while freshman Nicole Morrison followed suit at number five with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Classmate Jessica Swanderski took home a 6-2, 6-0 win to even the score at 3-3. With the third singles match the only one remaining, senior Jill Simodejka broke serve in the third set to earn a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win that gave SJU a 4-3 win, its first of the spring season. Senior Kathy Fromuth and Swanderski were the only Hawk doubles winners.
