GREYHOUNDS RUN PAST SJU, 4-3
BALTIMORE, MD (10/09/02) - Saint Joseph's continued to receive a strong showing from their fourth through sixth singles spots, but it wasn't enough in a tough 4-3 loss at Loyola.
Senior Kathy Fromuth and freshman Jess Swanderski were the only doubles winners (8-5), as the Hawks (5-5) lost the doubles point to start the match. Junior Pilar Glodzik and freshman Nicole Morrison fell in a tough 8-6 match that could have turned the tide for SJU.
In singles, junior Katie Bobish won her fourth straight at #4, 6-2, 6-3 and Morrison (6-1, 6-1) and Swanderski (6-1, 6-1) breezed by their opponents. Bobish is now 8-2 on the season and 31-7 in her career at SJU, placing her tied for fourth on the all-time wins list.
Loyola needed only to split the singles matches and it came down to the #1 position. In a three-set match that ended in near darkness, senior Lydia Thomas wasn't able to rally back from a 6-0 first set loss and fell 0-6, 7-5, 5-7.
