HAWKS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT WITH 4-3 WIN OVER UDEL
NEWARK, DE (09/21/02) - After winning the doubles point, it was junior Pilar Glodzik's three-hour marathon win that made all the difference on Saturday as the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team upended the Blue Hens, 4-3, on the Delaware Field House Course.
The two teams split the singles action, with the Hawks earning wins at second, fourth, and fifth singles. Glodzik's match turned out to be the game-winner, a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), three-hour marathon match, while junior Katie Bobish improved to 3-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #4. Freshman Nicole Morrison continued to impress, scoring a 6-2, 6 2 win at #5.
But it was in the doubles action that earned the win for SJU. Glodzik and Morrison teamed up for a 8-6 win at second doubles and freshman Jess Swanderski a nd senior Kathy Fromuth remained undefeated at third doubles, taking a 8-4 win.
For Saint Joseph's it was just their second ever win against the Blue Hens. The first came in 2000.
The Hawks return home to Finnesey Courts on Tuesday, September 24, when they host Towson at 3 pm.
