SAINT JOSEPH'S PLACES 11TH AT 2002 A-10 WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

PITTSBURGH, PA (04/20/02) - Saint Joseph's defeated La Salle, 4-3, to capture 11th place (out of 12) at the 2002 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championships hosted by Duquesne University. The #11-seed Hawks downed the #12-seed Explorers in the last of three matches for SJU in the three-day tourney. The Hawks lost by identical 4-0 scores to #6-seed Massachusetts and #10-seed Rhode Island. Pilar Glodzik defeated La Salle's Kate Erickson, 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles while Katie Bobish, Michelle Savage and Jamie Lomas all were victorious at #4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively. In the UMass defeat, Savage was leading her match, 7-6 (7-1) when the match was decided. Against URI, both Bobish (6-3, 3-2) and #1-singles player Lydia Thomas (6-2, 5-4) were ahead when the Rams posted the necessary four points for the win. #1-seed Richmond won the A-10 Championship.
