SJU TOPS RIDER, 6-1

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (10/04/01) - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team defeated Rider in a 6-1 win Thursday afternoon. Today's win breaks the Hawks three match losing streak putting them at 2-4 on the season. Sophomore Katie Bobish continued her winning ways at the number 5 slot downing her opponent (6-0, 6-1). Bobish is now 5-1 in singles play. Other winners for the Hawks include #2 Lydia Thomas in a close three-set match (6-0, 6-7, 8-6), #3 Pilar Glodzik (6-0, 6-1), #4 Jill Simodejka (6-3, 6-2) and #6 singles player Michelle Savage (6-2, 6-4). The only loss for the Hawks came at the #1 slot as Jance Hoy dropped to Rider's Kristen Zigo in a tight three-set match (4-6, 7-4, 7-4). In doubles, SJU's #1 team of Hoy and Glodzik upset their Rider foes 8-2 while the Thomas and Bobish tandem defeated their #2 opponents 8-3. The duo is now 6-0 in doubles play. Saint Joseph's is back on Finnesey courts this Saturday when they play host to Bucknell. The match is set for noon.
