Hawks Falter Against Lafayette 4-3

PHILADELPHIA, PA(10/01/01) - The Saint Joseph's University women's tennis team dropped a close match to Lafayette 4-3 Monday afternoon. The match was a rescheduled event after the regularly scheduled meeting was postponed due the September 11 tragedies. Sophomores Pilar Glodzik, the #3 singles player, and Katie Bobish, playing at the #5 slot, were victorious for the Hawks after downing their opponents (6-3, 6-3) and (6-2, 6-1). Juniors Jance Hoy, #1, Lydia Thomas, #2, Jill Simodejka, #4, and freshman Michelle Savage, #6, all faltered against the Leopards. In doubles action, the #2 team of Thomas and Bobish beat opponents Katie Gibbons and Jessie Abel 8-4, while the #3 duo of Simodejka and Savage squeaked by Lafayette's Susan King and Lisa Sayed 9-7 for the win. At #4 doubles, SJU's Alisa Paykos and Jaime Lomas defeated Lindsay Napier and Jen Mansh 8-6. SJU is now 1-3 in dual matches. The Hawks head to Villanova Tuesday, October 2, to square up against the Wildcats. The match is set for 3:00 p.m.
