Hawks Place 9th at A-10 Championships

Hamilton, NJ (4/22/01) - The St. Joseph's University women's tennis team concluded the most successful season in recent memory on Saturday with a ninth place finish at the 2001 Verizon Atlantic 10 Championships Freshmen Pilar Glodzik and Katie Bobish were particularly effective, both going undefeated in singles play. In the opening round, the #9 seeded Hawks faced off with #8 seed Dayton. Despite two singles victories by Glodzik and Bobish, the Flyers outlasted the Hawks, 4-3. Jance Hoy and Glodzik recorded a victory at #2 doubles while sophomores Lydia Thomas and Jill Simodejka teamed up for a victory at #3 doubles. In the second round, SJU surprised #7 St. Bonaventure, 4-1, to claim ninth place. Again, Glodzik and Bobish claimed singles victories while Simodejka won by default. Hoy and Glodzik recorded a victory at #2 doubles while sophomores Thomas and Simodejka teamed up for a victory at #3 doubles. Massachusetts took the overall title with George Washington, Temple, Xavier, and Duquesne rounding out the top five. The Hawks placed ahead of SBU and La Salle.
