Women's Tennis Begins Atlantic 10 Championship Play on Friday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Seeded 11th for the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team will set out to prove the bid wrong as the Hawks open play Friday against sixth-seeded Massachusetts. The match will begin at 1p.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.

Second all-time in wins with 40, senior Jhennifer Kedzierski will compete in her final matches as a Hawk this weekend. A native of St. Louis, Kedzierski has played through injuries this season and enters the weekend tied for fourth in victories at the No. 1 flight for SJU (17).

A versatile player, junior Maggie Mullaney has played in the top four flights throughout this season and has earned a team-high nine victories to date. Sophomores Laura Matz and Sally Kalani Stainier should compete in the middle flights as Stainier has come back strong from a foot injury to earn a win against Saint Peter's on Tuesday.

Competing in their first Atlantic 10 Championship, freshman Nicole Esposito and sophomores Tara Walsh, Kate Dowd and Melissa Glick will round out the singles and doubles field for Saint Joseph's.

 

 

With a win on Friday, the Hawks would face the winner of Temple/La Salle at 6 p.m. on Friday.
