Rhode Island Tops Saint Joseph's Women's Tennis Team, 4-0
Sept. 30, 2006 PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis dropped its first home match of the season as the Hawks fell to Rhode Island, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Finnesey Courts. The Rams claimed the first point of the match winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Rhode Island's Grace Hedstrom and Nyssa Peele downed Saint Joseph's Gina DiGiacomo and Marisa Donelson 8-0 at No. 2 doubles, while the Rams' Amanda Barletta and Stef Cantonzano topped the Hawks' Krysta Contino and junior Lauren Kuhmerker 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. In individual play, Saint Joseph's junior Stephania Velazquez fell to Lara Maurer 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Guers fell to Hedstrom at No. 3 singles. The Rams closed out the match as Peele topped DiGiacomo 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. With the loss, the Hawks fell to 7-3 on the season, while Rhode Island improves to 2-0 on the year with the win. Saint Joseph's returns to action Wednesday, October 4, when the Hawks host Fordham at 3 p.m. Singles
