Women's Netters Fall at Rhode Island, 6-1
Sept. 24, 2005 KINGSTON, RI - A victory by freshman Krysta Contino, her first collegiate win, was the only point the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team (0-2) could muster as the Hawks dropped a 6-1 decision to Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island (2-0). The Rams took two out of three matches to secure the doubles point and then claimed five of the six sigles matches. In doubles, the Hawks received a win at #3 from juniors Erika Guers and Alisa Van Meter (8-2), but URI picked up 8-3 and 8-4 victories at #1 and #2, respectively. In singles, Contino was a straight set winner over URI's Haley Loewenthal, 6-0, 6-3. Guers nearly earned a win at #2 for the Crimson and Gray, but was defeated in a super-tiebreaker, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7, by the Ram's Erin Fleming.
