Women's Tennis blanks Rider, 7-0

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team posted a dominating performance in its opening dual match of the season on Wednesday as the Hawks topped Rider, 7-0. Saint Joseph's earned the first point of the match after sweeping all three doubles matches. The Hawks gave up just five sets in earning the first point as senior Jennifer Kedzierski and sophomore Laura Matz blanked Rider's Tricia Ashmore and Marly Rocke, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Casey Robinson and junior Maggie Mullaney earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while sophomore newcomers Tara Walsh and Kate Dowd teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Switching to singles competition, Kedzierski and Robinson were perfect at No.1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, as each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories. Playing at No. 3 singles, Mullaney posted a 6-2, 7-5 win, while Matz was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 4 singles. Freshman Nicole Esposito earned her first collegiate victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, while sophomore Sally Kalani Stainier earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. The Hawks improve to 1-0 on the year with the win, while Rider falls to 0-3. Saint Joseph's returns to action next Wednesday, September 30 when the Hawks open play at the SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus versus Mount St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
