Mt. St. Mary's Snaps Saint Joseph's Women's Tennis Team's Two-Game Win Streak, 3-2
Sept. 9, 2006 TOWSON, MD - After starting out the season 2-0, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to Mt. St. Mary's 3-2 at the Towson Classic. The Hawks earned the first point of the match as the team of sophomore Krysta Contino and junior Lauren Kuhmerker won its third straight doubles match. The duo downed Mt. St. Mary's Ashley Wentzel and Christin Pace 6-3, 6-1. In singles action, freshman Jennifer Kedzierski was the only Saint Joseph's player to earn a point in the match, as she downed Kate Muething 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Playing at No. 1 singles, junior Stephania Velazquez fell 6-3, 6-3 to Kaitlin Hallahan, while junior Erika Guears lost in three sets, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 to Jen Iosue at No. 3 singles. Mt. St. Mary's earned the team victory as Chelsea Johnson downed the Hawks' junior Gina DiGiacomo 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 single Saint Joseph's will continue action at the Towson Classic Saturday evening.
