Hawks' Women's Tennis Team Downs Loyola, 4-1
Sept. 9, 2006 TOWSON, MD - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team won its second straight match to open the 2006 season, downing Loyola (MD) 4-1 Friday evening in the first day of the Towson Classic. For the second straight match the Hawks' duo of sophomore Krysta Contino and junior Lauren Kuhmerker opened the match with a straight-set victory at No. 1. They downed Loyola's Jennifer Zutz and Lee Suzanne 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season. In singles action, Saint Joseph's junior Stephania Velazquez and freshman Jennifer Kedzierski both improved to 2-0 on the season as the duo won at the No. 1 and No.2 slots, respectively. Velazquez defeated Caitlin Day 6-4, 6-3, while Kedzierski downed Stephanie Dunn 6-4, 6-2. At. No. 3 singles, junior Erika Guers earned her victory of the season, downing Lauren Cassle 6-1, 6-0, while junior Gina DiGiacomo dropped in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 to Kerri Swan at No. 4 singles. Saint Joseph's will continue action at the Towson Classic Saturday afternoon. Singles
