Women's Tennis Team Opens Season With 4-1 Win Over Washington College
Sept. 8, 2006 TOWSON, MD - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team opened its 2006 season with a 4-1 victory over Washington College Friday afternoon at the Towson Classic. The Hawks opened the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. The team of Krysta Contino and Lauren Kuhmerker downed Washington College's Rebecca Davis and Kate Barston in straight sets to earn the point for SJU. In singles play, Saint Joseph's got victories from Stephania Velazquez, Jennifer Kedzierski and Gina DiGiacomo to earn three points and the win. Playing at No. 1 singles, Velazquez downed Lydia Bull 6-1 and 6-3 in her first match as a Hawk. Playing at No. 2 singles, Kedzierski won 6-0, 6-2, while DiGiaomo, playing at No. 4, won 6-1, 6-2. Saint Joseph's will continue action at the Towson Classic tomorrow. Singles Doubles
