Saint Joseph's Women's Tennis Falls to Temple, 7-0

PHILADELPHIA - Trying for a program record 11th victory on the season Friday afternoon, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis came up short as the Hawks fell to city-rival Temple, 7-0. Saint Joseph's will have a chance to earn that win next weekend as the Hawks travel to Monroeville, PA for the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championships, April 20-22. The Owls scored the first point of the match in doubles competition as Temple topped the Hawks 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. In individual competition, the Owls continued their momentum sweeping all six matches. Saint Joseph's junior Stephania Velazquez fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 to Temple's Yuri Kurashima at No. 1 singles, while senior Erika Guers fell 6-0, 6-1 to Christine Clermont at No. 2 singles. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 10-9 on the year, while the Owls improve to 13-3. Results
