April 1, 2010 PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team fell to city-rival Temple, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex. The Hawks got a gritty victory from Sally Kalani Stainier at the third singles flight as the sophomore played through pain for a three-set win. The Owls jumped out to a 1-0 lead sweeping the three doubles matches. In singles, Stainier persevered through a food injury, posting a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 win over Josephine Bergman for the Hawks' lone point of the match. Saint Joseph's, playing shorthanded for the fourth straight match, dropped the other singles matches, including a hard-fought three-set loss by junior Maggie Mullaney at the top flight. Saint Joseph's (4-14) travels to Fairleigh Dickinson next Tuesday for 3 p.m. match with the Knights. Singles Doubles
