Hawks' Softball's Moir, Shumock and McCann Named to NFCA Student-Athlete Team
Nov. 20, 2006 PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's sophomores Kelsey Moir and Beka Shumock, along with 2006 SJU graduate Katie McCann, were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Team, the organization announced earlier this month. The honor recognizes collegiate softball student-athletes who boast a 3.5 grade point average or higher. An interdisciplinary health major with a 3.866 GPA, Moir proved to be an effective leadoff hitter for the Hawks. Over 45 contests as a rookie, she posted a team-high .318 batting average to go along with 48 hits, 10 doubles and 24 runs scored. Seeing action in 47 contests as a freshman, Shumock collected 19 hits, four runs and four RBIs. A chemistry major with a 3.936 GPA, split time in the infield as the Hawks finished 13-38-1 last season. A three-year letterwinner with the Hawks, McCann graduated this past May with a degree in elementary/special education.
