THREE HAWKS NAMED TO ALL-REGION TEAMS
PHILADELPHIA (05/22/02) - Saint Joseph's University freshman Alicia Cunic was named to the 2002 Mid-Atlantic Region First Team Softball squad while sophomores Lindsey McNamara and Dana Travis earned Second Team all-Region honors.
Cunic, a designated player/catcher, led SJU and ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 with 37 RBI. The Allentown, Pa. native (Parkland) batted .316 with seven homeruns, second on the team and third in the league. Cunic, who earned A-10 Rookie of the Week once, led the conference with a .547 slugging percentage, and her 12 doubles tied for fifth in the A-10 and second on SJU.
McNamara, who also earned Second Team all-Region last year, led SJU and ranked second in the conference with eight homeruns. The Hawk second baseman batted .300 on the season and drove in 31 runs, second on the team. A two-time A-10 Player of the Week honoree, the Southampton, N.J. native (Bishop Eustace) ranked third in the league with a .527 slugging percentage.
Travis set tied two school records and set a third during her stellar season on the mound for the Hawks. The Newark, Del. native (St. Mark's) compiled a 19-9 won-loss record with nine shutouts and a 1.45 ERA. Her wins and shutouts tied SJU season marks while her 179 strikeouts are a new SJU record. She ended the season ranked second in the Atlantic 10 in strikeouts, third in ERA and fourth in wins.
