Softball Drops Season-Ending Doubleheader at Charlotte.
May 7, 2006
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Saint Joseph's softball team capped its 2006 season Sunday afternoon at Charlotte, dropping a doubleheader to the 49ers 4-1 and 5-4. In game one, the Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a RBI double by senior first baseman Lynn Ravert. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Charlotte would score three in the bottom of the fourth against sophomore pitcher Lauren Cognigni and added a run in the fifth to earn the victory. In the nightcap, the Hawks fought back from an early 1-0 deficit with a three run fourth to take a 3-1 edge. Sophomore Carly Kinkler plated two runs on a triple and would come around to score on a RBI single by Ravert. The 49ers came back to tie it in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. Saint Joseph's reclaimed the lead 4-3 in the top of the fourth on a RBI by freshman Sarah Falk. However the lead was short lived as Charlotte added two in the fifth to go up 5-4 and hold on for the win. Playing in her final game in a Hawk uniform, Ravert went 3-for-6 with an RBI. Cognigni, who earlier this season set the SJU single-season record for strike outs, added four on the day to finish the year with 186. With the loss, SJU caps its season with a 13-38-1 record and 4-14 mark in the A-10. Charlotte, which earned a spot in the A-10 Championship, improved to 42-11 overall and 17-3 in the A-10.
