Softball Drops Pair of Games to Temple
April 26, 2006
EAST NORRITON, PA - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped a pair of Atlantic 10 games to city-rival Temple Wednesday afternoon at East Norriton Field. The Hawks dropped the opener 2-1 and fell 12-0 in the nightcap. In game one, Temple jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a solo home run by Danielle Fagan off Saint Joseph's sophomore pitcher Lauren Cognigni. The Hawks would tie it up in the bottom of the sixth as sophomore outfielder Carly Kinkler blooped an RBI single to right field, scoring classmate Kate Falsaca on the play. With the score tied at one, Fagan gave the Owls a 2-1 in the top of the seventh with her second solo homer of the game and Temple's second hit of the game. Unfortunately for the Hawks, they failed to score in the bottom of the seventh as Temple held on for the win. In game two, the Owl bats were too much for the Hawks as Temple out hit SJU 11-1 en route to a 12-0 win. Temple plated two in the first, three in the second, two in the third and broke it open with a five-run fourth inning. Brittany Burks accounted for three Temple RBIs as eight players recorded at least one. With the losses, the Hawks fall to 12-33-1 on the season and 3-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Temple improves to 18-21 overall and 10-4 in conference play. Saint Joseph's returns to action Friday as it hosts La Salle at 3 p.m.
