Softball Drops Second Game of Doubleheader at Fordham, 6-2
April 4, 2009 BRONX, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's softball team fell to Fordham, 6-2, in the second game of a doubleheader between the two teams on Saturday afternoon in the Bronx. Monica Aguilar had a pair of hits, including a home run, to lead the Hawk offense. Saint Joseph's took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on Aguilar's solo home run to left center. The score would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the third, when Fordham exploded for four runs. The Rams benefited from an RBI groundout, a two-run double, and an RBI single to take the lead, 4-1. Fordham tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth on a one-out, two-run home run by Jocelyn Dearborn. SJU got one back in the top of the sixth as a Brooke Darreff sacrifice fly scored Laura Cardone with what would turn out to be the final run of the game. Erin Gallagher (4-6) started for SJU and took the loss, going 3.1 innings while giving up four hits and four unearned runs. Chelsea Plimpton (6-1) threw a complete game for the Rams to pick up the victory. Saint Joseph's will head to Washington, D.C. for a doubleheader at George Washington on Sunday.
