Hawks Split Pair at Lafayette

Easton, PA - The Saint Joseph's softball team earned a split at Lafayette Tuesday, winning the opener 7-3 before falling 5-1 in the nightcap at Metzgar Field. In the opener, the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Kelsey Moir doubled to leadoff the game and stole on the ensuing at-bat of sophomore Kate Falasca. Moir would come around to score on a Lafayette error as Falasca safely reached first. Falasca would come around to score on a double by freshman Erika Rosenwinkel. The Leopards tied the game in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run by Kristin Ruckno. The Hawks regained its lead with a run in the top of the fourth as Carly Kinkler, who led off with a double, would eventually come around to score on a passed ball to put SJU up 3-2. Saint Joseph's opened a 4-2 edge in the top of the sixth on a RBI double by Kinkler and would go on to add three runs in the seventh. Hawks' sophomore hurler Lauren Cognigni earned the win, allowing three earned runs over seven innings, while striking out six. In the nightcap, Lafayette jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second off Saint Joseph's freshman pitcher Dani Gonzales. Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the sixth on a RBI double by Sarah Falk. Lafayette ended any hope for the Hawks as they tallied three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held SJU scoreless in the top of the seventh for the win.
Falk finished the day 4-for-7 with a RBI, while Kinkler went 3-for-7 with a RBI and run scored. |
