Softball Downs Iowa State; Falls To Radford At Seminole Classic
March 12, 2005 TALLAHASSEE, FL - In the second day of action at the Flordia State Seminole Invitational, the Saint Joseph's softball team downed Iowa State 7-2, but fell to Radford 10-2 in the nightcap. In the opener, the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead early, before opening up a 7-0 lead in the fifth. Saint Joseph's plated five runs in the fifth to put the Hawks up seven with an inning and a half remaining. Saint Joseph's allowed two late runs, but hung on for the victory to improve to 2-1 at the invitational. In the nightcap, Radford jumped out to a 9-0 lead thanks to a nine-run third inning. Saint Joseph's came into the third tied 0-0, but an Ashley Taylor grand slam broke open the game. The Hawks responded with two runs in the top of the fourth, but it was not enough as Radford added a run in the bottom half to earn a 10-2 victory. With the split, Saint Joseph's moves to 2-4 on the season and finished third in Pool A with a 2-2 record. The Hawks will face Maryland tomorrow for fourth place with the game beginning at 11 a.m.
