SCHUTT NAMED TO NSCAA ALL-REGION TEAM
PHILADELPHIA (12/08/03) – Freshman Megan Schutt has been named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team selected by the National Soccer Coaches Associated of America (NSCAA). She is the first Hawk to receive regional recognition since Ellen Stenrud was a third team selection in 1997.
Schutt paced Saint Joseph's in goals (11), assists (5) and points (27) in 2003, leading the Hawks to their first ever berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The forward was named to the All-Atlantic 10 first team and A-10 All-Rookie team and was the conference's Rookie of the Year.
The Sudbury, Ontario native set SJU freshman records for goals, assists, and points and her offensive output was the second best performance in team history behind Stenrud's 1997 campaign (12-6-30). Schutt finished second in the Atlantic 10 in points and third in goals.
Besides qualifying for the Atlantic 10 postseason, SJU set team records for conference wins (seven) and its 9-8-1 overall record was the best since 1999.
Six players, including Schutt, represented the Atlantic 10 on the NSCAA's all-region team. Richmond placed three players (Megan Cox, Edda Gardarsdottir, Meghan Ogilvie), while George Washington (Kim Warner) and Duquesne (Lauren Bracco) each had one player.
