SCHUTT BRINGS HOME HARDWARE FROM A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP BANQUET

RICHMOND, VA (11/05/03) – Freshman Megan Schutt headlined a successful evening for the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team at the annual Atlantic 10 Championship banquet in Richmond. The rookie forward was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the all-conference first and all-rookie teams. Junior defender Jen Harris garnered All-A-10 second team honors, while redshirt freshman Nancy Cook was named to the all-rookie team. Schutt is just the second Hawk to be named to the first team in the program's history. Ellen Stenrud, who holds nearly every offensive team record, was a first team selection in 1997. The Canadian import currently leads the team in goals (11), assists (5), and points (27) and ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in goals and points. Schutt needs just one goal and three points to tie Stenrud for the SJU single season records in both categories. Harris, a 2001 All-Atlantic 10 Rookie team member, earns her first all-conference citation. The back had a flair for the dramatic late in the season, scoring crucial goals against St. Bonaventure and Rhode Island. She has anchored a Hawk defense that sports a 1.54 goals against average. Cook, who missed all but four games last year due to injury, is the first all-rookie selection since Harris in 2001. Her health was a problem again this season, as she suffered a knee injury during the team's preseason trip to Norway. Once healthy, Cook returned to rank second on SJU in goals (5) and third in points (11). Saint Joseph's (9-7-1, 7-4-0 A-10) is making its first trip to the Atlantic 10 Championships and faces off with Xavier on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
