WOMEN'S SOCCER NORWEGIAN TOUR: DAY 9

ASKER, NORWAY (08/24/03) -- Juniors Marisa Barriere and Erin Ryan recap the women's soccer team's trip to Norway. ---- "The Culmination of Pre-Season 2003" 3:00 a.m. - The alarm goes off. Red-eyed and sleep deprived after three weeks of intense training and a fun last night in Norway, we dragged ourselves to the lobby to check out of the Scandic Hotel, our home for the past ten days. Memories of fighting for breakfast crepes in the morning, using the internet for free, and fighting over who gets to ride in C.C.'s car danced in our heads as we made our way to the Oslo airport... Our bags were packed, passports accounted for (so far) and we boarded the plane to London. As tired as we all were - sleep was not happening. Was it the sleep deprivation or simple carelessness that led to the near tragedy of a team member (we are not going to mention any names: C.H.) leaving her passport aboard the plane? Perhaps we will never know. However, we do know this - for the first time this trip it was NOT us who messed up! With the recovered passport in hand, we began our journey back to Philadelphia. Discovery: (Assistant coach) Jebb's real name is Allan: A well kept secret at Hawk Hill for many years! - Marisa Barriere The cabin crew on British Airlines were prepared to take care of 21 of the 22 original passengers (missing in action was #11 Nancy Cook). There was only eight short (aka not so short) hours separating us from cheesesteaks and home. Some passed the time with Nemo, Friends or Matthew McConaughey. The lucky ones passed out in the limited personal space the economy class provides. We were hoping SJU would have splurged for first class, however, no such luck! Freshmen played out every worst case scenerio encounter of the possible roomate from Hades while the rest of us did anything that would keep us occupied during the final flight. After such a fun and productive preseason, we are all looking forward to a successful season in the Atlantic 10. -- Erin Ryan
